What types of dance photography do you offer?
I offer fine art ballet and dance photography with an emphasis on classical technique, clean lines, and expressive movement. Ballet is the primary focus, and I also photograph dancers trained in contemporary, lyrical, or jazz styles, provided they are comfortable executing poses independently.
Sessions highlight classical ballet fundamentals such as arabesque, attitude and tendu captured in a way that feels intentional, polished, and true to the dancer’s training.
Who are these dance photography sessions best suited for?
Dance and ballet photography sessions are ideal for:
-
Ballet students and pre-professional dancers
-
Competitive and auditioning dancers
-
Dancers preparing submission materials
-
Teens and young adults documenting their dance journey
These sessions are best suited for dancers who already know their poses and movement vocabulary. This is not an instructional or choreography-based experience.
How much direction do you provide during the session?
Dancers are expected to execute their own poses and movement. My role is to guide through the details, not to teach or choreograph.
During the session, I refine:
-
Hand and arm placement in poses like arabesque and attitude
-
Extension, posture, turnout, and overall line
-
Balance and control through tendu and held positions
-
Facial expression and intention
This approach keeps the work authentic to the dancer’s technique while ensuring the final images feel refined and purposeful.
Do you photograph dancers for auditions and submissions?
Yes. I photograph dancers for audition and submission purposes, including Dance audition submissions, as well as other ballet academies and training programs.
Sessions are planned with submission standards in mind, with particular attention to:
-
Clean, distraction-free backgrounds
-
Proper framing and angles
-
Clear technique and posture
-
Classical positions such as arabesque, tendu, and controlled balances
-
A professional, neutral presentation
If your program has specific guidelines, those can be shared ahead of time so the session is planned accordingly.
Do you offer dancer headshots?
Yes. Professional dancer headshots can be added to any ballet or dance photography session.
Dancer headshots are commonly used for:
Headshots are clean, expressive, and age-appropriate, with an emphasis on natural expression rather than heavy styling.
Where do dance photography sessions take place?
Most dance and ballet photography sessions take place in-studio, where lighting, background, and space are carefully controlled to highlight form, movement, and expression.
On-location sessions at dance studios may be available for select projects and are planned in advance with professional lighting to ensure consistency and quality.
Do you photograph individual dancers or groups?
Individual dancer sessions are the primary focus. Duets and small group sessions may be available by request for dancers who train together and share a cohesive vision. Larger group or company sessions are considered on a limited basis and require advance planning.
What should dancers wear for the session?
Simple, classic dancewear photographs best. Dancers are encouraged to bring:
Busy patterns, logos, and distracting elements are best avoided. Styling guidance is shared ahead of time so dancers arrive prepared and confident.
Can parents attend the session?
Yes. Parents are welcome, especially for younger dancers. The studio environment is calm, focused, and respectful of the dancer’s process.
Do you provide professional retouching?
Yes. All selected images receive professional retouching with a light, natural approach. Skin texture, muscle tone, and authenticity are preserved. The goal is refinement, not alteration.
Do you offer prints or artwork?
Yes. A curated collection of printed products is available, including:
-
Fine art wall portraits
-
Framed prints
-
Albums and folio boxes
These pieces are designed to celebrate the dancer’s journey and create lasting keepsakes.
How far in advance should sessions be booked?
Dance and ballet photography sessions should be booked 2 to 4 weeks in advance, especially during audition season. A limited number of sessions are offered each month to ensure a focused, personalized experience.
Where are you located and how do we book?
The studio is located in the Bay Area, with sessions available by appointment. To book, simply reach out to schedule a consultation so we can discuss the dancer’s experience, goals, and any audition or submission requirements.
